المعضلة: موقع الراء في الألف باء* سمير عطا الله

هذه المرة الثالثة، أو الرابعة، التي أشير فيها إلى خاصية معينة عند الكاتب البريطاني سومرست موم. ليس غفلة في الذاكرة ولا تغافلاً لذاكرة النبهاء، لكن كل مرة لغاية مختلفة. وما كررته هو أن النصيحة الأدبية الشائعة في الماضي كانت تقول إن على كل من يريد إجادة الإنجليزية أو التفوق فيها، أن يقرأ مؤلفات موم. إنه أشبه بقاموس من المفردات، لكن من دون جمود القواميس. تحل المفردة في نصوصه كما تحط الفراشة فوق زهرة، أقصى الإبداع في الاختيار. ولكن بعد فترة تنسى أنك تقرأ موم، من أجل مفردة، وإنما من أجل لغة ومتعة وأسلوب. وهو القائل إن جبابرة الرواية في روسيا وفرنسا، لم يتعلموا الأسلوب في مكان، لكنهم تركوا مدارس يستحيل تقليدها. أما هو فقال إنه تقيّد بقاعدتين: الأولى، الاختصار، ثم الاختصار، ثم الاختصار. والثانية ما دعا إليه فولتير: إلغاء النعوت من النص، وحتى من الذاكرة.

هل تعرف مما كان يشكو الرجل الذي تدعو المعاهد إلى التعلم منه؟ لا تحاول التخمين، لأنه مستحيل: «كم كانت حياتي ستكون أكثر سهولة لو أنني استطعت حفظ الألف باء كما هي. لكن عبثاً. ما زلت لا أعرف إن كانت الراء تقع قبل السين أم اللام قبل الياء، أم الباء قبل الراء، أو بعدها. وعبثاً أحاول أن أتذكر أين هو موقع الجيم».

يعرف ذلك تماماً أي أستاذ، أو تلميذ في مدرسة ابتدائية. لكن كم من علماء النحو لم يستطع كتابة قصيدة واحدة أو ربما جملة واحدة. جورج أورويل، أشهر كتّاب بريطانيا في القرن الماضي، كان ضعيفاً في الإملاء. ومات من دون التأكد من أن كلمة Actually تكتب بلام واحدة أو لامين. وكانت تتولى تصحيح نصوصه زوجته، التي تطبعها على الآلة الكاتبة.

كانت هناك قواسم مشتركة كثيرة بين موم ومشاهير عصره: أفاد إلى أقصى الحدود في رواياته ومسرحياته من تجربته في دراسة الطب وحياة المرضى، كما حدث مع الروسي تشيكوف، أو المصري يوسف إدريس. وأفاد من عمله في سلك الإسعاف خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية، كما أفاد من التجربة نفسها أرنست همنغواي، وأفاد من السفر الكثير ومن العمل في روسيا قبل ثورة 1917، لحساب الانتلجنس سرفيس، مثل كثيرين من أدباء بريطانيا في تلك المرحلة.

القاسم المشترك الآخر أنه مثل معظمهم أمضى الكثير من الوقت متمتعاً بالطقس الدافئ وجمال الطبيعة في جنوب فرنسا. وفيه وضع بعض أجمل رواياته ومنها «السيدات السمينات الثلاث من انتيب»، التي تسخر من نساء المنطقة. وعندما كثر المصطافون العرب في جنوب فرنسا في الثمانينات، أخذوا يقارنون في سخرية بين بعض النساء العربيات وبين سيدات موم. وأعتقد أن تلك كانت المناسبة الوحيدة التي قرأوا فيها شيئاً للرجل. فليسقط القاموس وعالم المرادفات.
