الولايات المتحدة تتبرع بـ 1,6 مليون جرعة لقاح “فايزر” إلى مصر
كشفت السفارة الأميركية لدى القاهرة، الخميس، عن وصول شحنة تحوي 1,6 مليون جرعة من لقاح “فايزر” المضاد لفيروس كورونا المستجد، قدمتها الولايات المتحدة لمصر من خلال آلية “كوفاكس” الأممية.
ووفقا لإعلان السفارة، فإن هذه اللقاحات “ستساعد بحماية المصريين من كوفيد-19 ومنع انتشار سلالات جديدة خطرة من الفيروس”.
وتم تسليم الجرعات في احتفال حضره ممثلون عن “فايزر” ومنظمة الصحة العالمية واليونيسيف.
وقالت القائمة بأعمال السفارة الأميركية لدى القاهرة، نيكول شامبين، إن “حكومتينا وشعبينا يعملان جنبا إلى جنب، كل يوم، لمحاربة الفيروس”.
وكانت واشنطن قد دعمت القاهرة، في بداية الجائحة، بإمدادات طبية شملت أجهزة تنفس ومستلزمات ضرورية لمواجهة الكارثة الصحية العالمية.
ومنذ بدء الجائحة، تجاوزت قيمة الدعم الأميركي لمصر 50 مليون دولار لمساعدتها بالتعامل مع الجائحة.
ووفقا لممثلة منظمة الصحة العالمية في مصر، نعيمة القصير، فإن جرعات “فايزر” الأخيرة ستدعم مصر للوصول إلى مرحلة تكون قد طعمت بها 40 بالمئة من سكانها، بحلول نهاية 2021.
وكانت الولايات المتحدة ودول شريكة لها قد قدمت في وقت سابق 4,7 مليون جرعة من اللقاحات المضادة لفيروس كورونا المستجد لمصر من خلال آلية “كوفاكس”.
