دراسة: التباعد الاجتماعي قد يدوم إلى 2022

أشارت دراسة جديدة أجراها باحثون في جامعة هارفارد الأميركية إلى أن التباعد الاجتماعي في الولايات المتحدة قد تتوجب مواصلته حتى عام 2022، لمعالجة وباء فيروس كورونا. وأوضح علماء في “كلية هارفارد للصحة العامة”، الذين نُشرت أبحاثهم في مجلة “ساينس” يوم الثلاثاء الماضي، أن “التباعد المتقطع” قد يكون مطلوباً في السنوات القليلة المقبلة.
تأتي الدراسة في الوقت الذي سجلت الولايات المتحدة أكثر من ألفين و200 حالة وفاة بسبب فيروس كوفيد-19 يوم الثلاثاء الماضي وحده، وهو أعلى عدد يومي للوفيات في العالم. وبذلك وصل عدد المتوفين بالعدوى في البلاد إلى ثمانيةٍ وعشرين ألفاً وثلاثمئة شخص حتى كتابة هذا التقرير.
وأشار باحثو جامعة هارفارد في النتائج التي توصلت إليها دراستهم، إلى أنه “قد تكون هناك حاجة لتباعدٍ متقطع بين الناس حتى عام 2022، ما لم تتم زيادة قدرة الرعاية الحرجة بشكل كبير، أو إذا أصبح العلاج أو اللقاح متاحاً”.
واستشهد البحث الطبي بكوريا الجنوبية وسنغافورة كمثلين، بحيث رأت الدراسة أن التدابير بعيدة الأجل يمكن أن تخفف العبء على أنظمة الرعاية الصحية، وتسمح بتتبع الاتصال الفاعل والحجر الصحي.
واعترف فريق البحث بأن سيكون لذلك تأثيرٌ سلبي على الرفاهية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والتعليمية في الولايات المتحدة. ولاحظت الدراسة أنه حتى بعد “التخلص الظاهري” من الوباء، تجب مواصلة مراقبة الفيروس لأنه قد يعاود الظهور في وقت متأخر من عام 2024.
وكانت منظمة الصحة العالمية “قد أفادت بأن عدد الإصابات لم يبلغ “بالتأكيد” ذروته بعد، بحيث تم الإبلاغ عن وقوع نحو مليوني إصابة بالمرض حول العالم، وأكثر من مئة وأربعةٍ وعشرين ألف حالة وفاة بسبب الفيروس، حتى لحظة إعداد هذا التقرير.
وشهدت الولايات المتحدة العدد الأكبر من الوفيات الناجمة عن فيروس كوفيد-19 أكثر من أي بلد آخر في العالم.
