تمر السنوات تباعا، فنستذكر مقارفة حريق المسجد الأقصى، في 21/8/1969، حين شاهد المقدسيون لهيب النار ينبعث من المسجد الأقصى ويتطاول ليصل سماء مدينة القدس، فهرعوا رجالا ونساء وأطفالا وكبار سن لإطفاء نار الحقد المتطرف الصهيوني على «الأقصى»، فصورتهم كاميرات العالم وهم ينقلون، بهمة وحماس، التراب في أواني يدوية، وينقلون الماء من البيوت المجاورة للمسجد لإطفاء الحريق.
لقد ثبت أن حرق الأقصى لم يكن عملا فرديا، حيث قطع الاحتلال يومها المياه عن المنطقة المحيطة بالمسجد، وتعمد تأخير سيارات الإطفاء التابعة لبلدية الاحتلال في القدس حتى لا تشارك في إطفاء الحريق، بل جاءت سيارات الإطفاء العربية من الخليل ورام الله قبلها وساهمت في عملية الإطفاء، وتبين أن المواد التي تم استخدامها في إضرام الحريق لا تتوفر إلا لدى الدول فقط ولا يمكن شراؤها من الأسواق، وأن من قام بالإحراق مجموعة وليس شخصا واحدا تم اعتقاله هو العنصري الأسترالي (مايكل دينيس روهن). وقد جاء رد الفعل الدولي مؤكدا على ما سبق محملا «إسرائيل» المسؤولية، فصدر قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي رقم (271) لعام 1969 بتاريخ 15 أيلول/ سبتمبر الذي أدان «إسرائيل» لحرق الأقصى، ودعا لإلغاء جميع الإجراءات التي من شأنها تغيير وضع القدس، والتقيد بنصوص اتفاقيات جنيف والقانون الدولي الذي ينظم الاحتلال العسكري. وفي العام 1980، جاء قرار مجلس الأمن رقم (478)، وهو واحد من سبعة قرارات صادرة عن الأمم المتحدة أدانت فيها محاولة إسرائيل ضم القدس الشرقية. ولقد لاحظ قرار مجلس الأمن الدولي (478) عدم امتثال «إسرائيل» لقرار مجلس الأمن الدولي (476) وأدان «قانون القدس» لعام 1980 الذي أعلن أن القدس هي «عاصمة إسرائيل الكاملة والموحدة»، باعتباره انتهاكًا للقانون الدولي.
مع استطالة سنوات الاحتلال، استمرت الحرائق وإن بأشكال أخرى متعددة، على رأسها الأعمال الحفرية تحت «المسجد الحرام»، إلى بناء الأنفاق المتواصلة بعضها ببعض التي أدت إلى تقويض أساسات الحرم القدسي، كما تم السماح لمنظمات «الهيكل» بتكثيف الاقتحامات والدفع نحو بناء كنيس على جزء من الساحات لحين بناء «الهيكل» المزعوم. بالإضافة إلى عمليات التهويد والاستعمار/ «الاستيطان»، وكأن ألسنة اللهب ما زالت منذ 21/8/1969 تستعر بساحات الحرم القدسي مع تصاعد أطماع الاحتلال ومخططاته الرامية لفرض التقسيم المكاني والزماني بالمسجد، والتي يتم التمهيد لها بالانتهاكات شبه اليومية التي تقوم بها قطعان «المستوطنين» تحديدا.
يأتي حريق الأقصى في ظل المقارفات المستمرة حتى اليوم والتي قام وما زال يقوم بها الاحتلال الإسرائيلي منذ عام 1948، وبالذات منذ 1967، بهدف طمس الهوية الحضارية الإسلامية والعربية لمدينة القدس، ويتفاقم الحال في نطاق المخطط التهويدي الكبير الذي يستهدف المدينة بأكملها (بشطريها الغربي والشرقي) دون اعتبار لحرمة المقدسات الإسلامية والمسيحية فيها، لكن أيضا في ظل مقاومة شجاعة تتولاها جموع الفلسطينيين على امتداد أرض فلسطين التاريخية وفي الطليعة منها جموع المقدسيين/ أهل الرباط.
