وبعدما شدد على “خطورة الوضع”، التزم ماتيس الحذر حول الانعكاسات السياسية لهذه الجريمة. وقال “سأواصل مشاوراتي مع الرئيس (دونالد ترامب) ووزير الخارجية (مايك بومبيو) اللذين يجريان تقييما لانعكاسات هذا الحادث على استراتيجيتنا”.
وحصلت الولايات المتحدة على معلومات جديدة عن التحقيق. وقال مسؤول أميركي إن مديرة وكالة الاستخبارات المركزية (سي آي ايه) جينا هاسبل قدمت لترامب “استنتاجاتها وتحليلاتها لرحلتها إلى تركيا” حيث تباحثت مع المسؤولين عن التحقيق.
وذكرت الصحف التركية أن أنقرة تقاسمت مع هاسبل تسجيلات الفيديو والصوت حول مقتل خاشقجي.
