على بعد 180 مترا فقط، من مبنى البنتاغون، كانت الطفلة هانا بورن، وشقيقتها الصغرى هيدز، في مركز تنمية الطفل التابع لوزارة الدفاع الأميركية، عندما اصطدمت طائرة الخطوط الجوية الأميركية رقم 77 في المبنى بتاريخ الحادي عشر من سبتمبر 2001.

لا تتذكر هيذر أحداث 11 سبتمبر حيث كان عمرها أربعة أشهر فقط، فيما لا تزال لدى هانا بعض الذكريات المتناثرة، حيث كان عمرها ثلاث سنوات، لكن هذه الأحداث بجانب أشياء أخرى، ألهمتهما ليكونا في صفوف الجيش الأميركي في سبيل خدمة بلدهما، بحسب تقرير لشبكة “سي بي أس نيوز“.

تقول هانا: “كنت في مركز الرعاية النهارية (حضانة) ألعب وأرقص مع بعض زملائي، كنا نلعب بشرائط الرقص، ثم أذكر بعدها أنه تم جمعنا في الردهة”.

كانت هانا وهيدز في مبنى ضمن حرم البنتاغون، على الجانب الآخر من مكان تحطم الطائرة. عم الخوف والذعر بعد أن ضربت الطائرة في الجانب الغربي من البنتاغون واشتعلت النيران.

لم يسفر الهجوم على البنتاغون عن وفاة أو إصابة أي طفل في دار الحضانة. ومع ذلك، تم إغلاق مركز تنمية الطفل في عام 2004 بسبب مخاوف بشأن سلامة الأطفال.

تقول هانا: “بدأت أشعر بالهلع خاصة بعد إخراجنا من المبنى، حيث كان في ذلك الوقت عدد كبير من الأشخاص يخرجون في نفس الوقت، بالإضافة إلى أصوات أجهزة إنذار الحرائق المزعجة، وأصوات سيارات الطوارئ، فضلا عن ضجيج علوي ناجم عن أصوات طائرات الهليكوبتر”.

بعد عقدين من الزمان على هذه الأحداث، تقول هانا: “لا أعتقد أننا نعرف حقا أيا من أسماء الأشخاص الضالعين (في عمليات الإنقاذ)، لكنني آمل فقط أن يعرفوا كيف ألهمت أفعالهم أنا وأختي ودفعتنا إلى الأمام واتخاذ قرار الانضمام للجيش لخدمة بلدنا”.

تخرجت هانا من أكاديمية القوات الجوية في عام 2019؛ أما شقيقتها الصغرى هيذر هي ضابط صف في فئة الأكاديمية البحرية لعام 2023.

تكمل هانا الآن دراستها في كلية الدراسات العليا في جامعة جورج تاون، حيث تدرس علوم البيانات والتحليلات وتأمل في القيام بمهام البحث والإنقاذ.

لم يكن والدا الشقيقتين، اللذين يمتلكان أيضا خلفيات عسكرية، موجودين في البنتاغون يوم 11 سبتمبر، حيث كانت والدتهما، العميد المتقاعدا دانا بورن، في القاعدة المشتركة “أناكوستيا بولينغ” في ذلك الوقت.

وفي النهاية، ألهمت تلك الأحداث، جنبا إلى جنب مع نشأتهن في قواعد عسكرية، الشقيقتان لاتباع خطى والديهما في الجيش.

تقول هانا: “هناك الكثير من الأرواح التي تغيرت إلى الأبد بسبب أحداث ذلك اليوم وكل ما جاء بعده، لذلك أعتقد بالنسبة لنا، فالأمر يتعلق دائمًا بالتذكر وتحديد ما يمكننا القيام به لتكريم من ماتوا على أفضل وجه”.
