قد تُجبر شركة جوجل على إغلاق خدمتها للأخبار الشائعة «أخبار جوجل Google News» إلى الأبد، وذلك في حال تطبيق قانون الاتحاد الأوروبي.
إذ تهدد الشركة العملاقة المتخصصة في خدمات البحث بإغلاق خدمتها للأخبار في حال فرض ما يسمى بـ»ضريبة الرابط».
هذه الضريبة المقترحة على الأخبار من شأنها أن تُجبر شركة جوجل على دفع رسوم في كل مرة مقابل الروابط الخاصة بالمواقع الإخبارية.
تعد خدمة أخبار جوجل واحدة من الخدمات الإخبارية الأكثر شعبية في العالم، إذ تتوفر كموقع على شبكة الإنترنت بالإضافة إلى تطبيق، وتقدم آخر الأخبار من جميع أنحاء العالم من خلال روابط النصوص والصور.
بيد أن الاتحاد الأوروبي وبعض الخدمات الإخبارية قلقون بشأن تعويض الناشرين، لا سيما عندما تعرض جوجل مقتطفات من المقالات في نتائج البحث.
ووفقاً لصحيفة The Guardian البريطانية، رفضت شركة جوجل استبعاد إغلاق خدمة أخبار جوجل في حال تطبيق الضريبة المقترحة.
وفي حديثه للصحيفة، حذر نائب رئيس جوجل لقسم الأخبار من إغلاق الشركة لخدمتها الخاصة بالأخبار.
وأوضح ريتشارد غينغراس أنه «لا أحد يرغب في إغلاق الخدمات»، إلا أن الشركة قلقة للغاية من مقترحات الاتحاد الأوروبي.
وأضاف أن مستقبل أخبار جوجل يعتمد على ما إذا كان الاتحاد الأوروبي مستعداً لتغيير «صيغة» القانون، وأردف قائلاً: «لا يمكننا اتخاذ قرار حتى نرى الصيغة النهائية».
أشار غينغراس إلى قيام إسبانيا بإصدار قانون في عام 2014 في محاولة منها لفرض رسوم على جوجل مقابل الروابط.
وقد صُمم هذا القانون لدعم المؤسسات الإخبارية المتعثّرة، ولكنه لم يلق رد فعل جيداً في مقر جوجل.
حينها أغلقت الشركة خدمة الأخبار الخاصة بها في إسبانيا، مما أدى إلى انخفاض عدد زوار المواقع الإخبارية الإسبانية، حسبما قال غينغراس.
وأوضح قائلاً: «لا نود أن نرى ذلك يحدث في أوروبا، وما نريد القيام به الآن هو العمل مع أصحاب المصلحة وذوي الشأن».
من المحتمل أن تقدم شركة آبل على تهديدات مماثلة، حيث من المرجح أن تؤثر «ضريبة الرابط» على خدمة أخبار آبل المتوفرة على أجهزة iOS وMacOS.
