الولايات المتحدة تسجل 2053 حالة وفاة جديدة خلال 24 ساعة والرئيس ترامب يفكر بفرض رسوم عقابية على الصين لتسببها بإنتشار الوباء

سجّلت الولايات المتحدة 2053 وفاة جرّاء فيروس كورونا المستجدّ خلال 24 ساعة، حسب بيانات لجامعة جونز هوبكنز الخميس الساعة 20,30 بالتوقيت المحلّي.
وبعد تراجع طفيف في عدد الوفيّات يومي الأحد والإثنين الماضيين، إلا أن الولايات المتحدة سجلت اليوم الخميس أكثر من ألفَي حالة وفاة لليوم الثالث على التوالي، ليرتفع بذلك إجماليّ عدد الوفيّات على أراضيها منذ بدء الجائحة إلى 63.906، حسب ما أظهرت بيانات جامعة جونز هوبكنز التي تُعتبر مرجعاً في تتبّع الإصابات والوفيّات الناجمة عن الفيروس.
والولايات المتّحدة التي سجّلت فيها أول وفاة بالفيروس في نهاية شباط/فبراير هي الدولة الأكثر تضرّراً في العالم من جرّاء وباء كوفيد-19، سواء من حيث عدد الوفيات أو الإصابات.
وأعلن الرئيس الأميركي دونالد ترامب الخميس أنه يفكّر في فرض رسوم عقابية على الصين، بعدما قال إنّه اطّلع على أدلّة تشير إلى أنّ فيروس كورونا المستجد مصدره مختبر صيني في ووهان اتُهم في الآونة الأخيرة بالافتقار إلى الشفافية.
وردّاً على مراسل في البيت الأبيض سأله عمّا إذا كان اطّلع على أدلّة تجعله يعتقد جدّياً أنّ معهد ووهان للفيروسات هو مصدر جائحة كورونا، قال ترامب “نعم”.
وأضاف “إنّه شيء كان يمكن احتواؤه في مكان المنشأ. وأعتقد أنّه كان من الممكن احتواؤه بسهولة كبيرة”.
وكانت الاستخبارات الأميركية أعلنت، الخميس، أنّها توصلت إلى خلاصة مفادها أنّ فيروس كورونا المستجد “ليس من صنع الإنسان أو عدّل جينياً”.
وتستمر الأجهزة الاستخباراتية بحثها لـ”تحديد ما إذا كان الوباء بدأ باحتكاك مع حيوانات مصابة أو أنّه نتيجة حادث مخبري في ووهان”، المدينة الصينية حيث بدأ تفشيه، وفق إدارة الاستخبارات في بيان.
ولا يزال مصدر الفيروس غامضا. وكان رئيس هيئة الأركان الأميركية المشتركة الجنرال مارك ميلي قال إن المخابرات الأميركية تشير إلى أن الفيروس نشأ على الأرجح بشكل طبيعي ولم يتم تخليقه في معمل بالصين، لكن لا يوجد ما يؤكد أي من الاحتمالين.
وذكرت محطة فوكس نيوز التلفزيونية في تقرير سابق أن الفيروس نشأ في معمل في ووهان، ليس كسلاح بيولوجي وإنما كجزء من سعي الصين لإظهار أن جهودها لرصد ومكافحة الفيروسات تكافئ أو تفوق قدرات الولايات المتحدة.
